If a shortcut does nothing

Terminal multiplexers and some terminal emulators capture certain combinations before the application sees them — CtrlK and CtrlG are the usual casualties under tmux and screen. Every panel has a slash-command equivalent, listed in the row's detail, so nothing is unreachable.
